US Airways and PAL Reach New Heights
at
PAL Center Adoption
June 15, 2010
On Tuesday, June 15, 2010, US Airways representatives joined PAL
children and staff at the Wynnefield PAL Center (North 54th Street
& Wynnfield Ave.) to present an $18,500 check to support four
PAL programs, including the adoption of the Wynnefield PAL Center.
The ceremony was moderated by newly-appointed PAL Board Chairperson,
Sylvia Nisenbaum, Esq. and included remarks from Deputy Commissioner
Charlotte Council and special guest Robert Ciminelli, Vice President
of US Airways Philadelphia Operations and PAL Board member.
The highlight of the event was an old PAL favorite that is being
brought back into the centers with US Airways’ support. Over 60
children took part in PAL’s “Come Fly with US” Paper Airplane Contest.
US Airways logo paper airplanes were constructed and flown down
the runway. The three children with the longest flights won gift
cards.
US Airways is quickly becoming an important advocate for PAL's
great mission of “Cops Helping Kids” by giving valuable monetary
and voluntary support through several different initiatives. US
Airways’ belief in PAL's work will allow its adopted center to expand
after-school programs, maintain existing general operations and
provide safe haven for over 1,000 underserved youth. US Airways
also pledged support for the 2010 Award Dinner, Golf Classic and
Make a Celebrity PAL event.

lab, which was completely furnished thanks to ACE's generosity.

existing general operations and provide safe haven for over 1,300
underserved youth.
Cozen PAL Prom Dress Extravaganza!
March 15, 2010
On Monday, March 15th, 2010, over 120 young women from the various
PAL centers across Philadelphia were treated to a wonderful shopping
trip. This event was held at the Cozen PAL center and hosted by the
law firm of Cozen O'Connor for the second consecutive year. The Cozen
PAL center was transformed into a shopping paradise for the evening.
Dresses and gowns adorned the gymnasium by the hundreds. Classrooms
were filled with shoes, handbags and accessories that sparkled like
diamonds. Locker rooms were converted into dressing rooms where the
young ladies tried on the beautiful gowns in red, turquoise and many
other colors of the rainbow. The young ladies were given helpful fashion
tips and instructed on how to properly apply makeup and other facial
cosmetics.
Volunteers from Cozen O'Connor, Independence Blue Cross, Blue Mercury,
Saks, students from Archbishop Carroll High School and a visiting
community service team-based out in Iowa-were on hand to assist
the girls through out the evening.
From transportation to gown selection, to accessories and makeup,
this event-
like all PAL programs-was provided completely free of charge to
all participants. All young ladies who participated were given the
experience of feeling like a queen on this special evening.

IDC Movie Game to Benefit PAL a Success!
December 7, 2009
In what has been a tough economy to raise much-needed funds, the International
Data Corporation and Gullifty’s Pizza Grille and Bar came through
for PAL by hosting an event on December 7th. With food and drinks
donated by Gullifty’s and IDC title sponsoring the 2009 Movie Game,
almost $5,000 was donated to PAL.
Not only was it a night of fun as well as great fundraising, but PAL
also received added exposure with a new constituency as well as by
having a team who participated in the game consisting of NBC10 personalities.
Thank you to all who showed their support for this event. A very special
thanks goes out to Chris Burns and Tiffany Johnson of IDC and Gene
Johnson of Gullifty’s. It has become an annual tradition at PAL and
an event that could see even bigger returns in the future!
PAL Kids Have a Blast Decorating over
200 Donuts!
September 21, 2009
On Monday, Sept 21st, over 150 PAL kids flocked to the Cozen PAL center
to participate in the Dunkin’ Donuts Rockin’ Reading Literacy Program
kick-off ceremony. Dunkin’ Donuts’ Community Foundation donated $6,000
to PAL. A portion of the proceeds will be going toward a reading contest
in which children will be encouraged to read and write short reports
on the stories they choose to read. Every book a child finishes puts
his/her name into a raffle, which gives prizes such as autographed
Philadelphia Eagles items and gift cards to Dunkin’ Donuts.
To add some excitement to the program kick-off, PAL Officer Steve
Brennan read a book to the captivated youth constituency and Dunkin’
Donuts invited the children to decorate over 200 donuts! Tables filled
with sprinkles, icing, marshmallows and decorating tools took over
the Cozen PAL gymnasium. Children had a ball decorating their own
donuts.
